My Background My Call
I don’t want to sound all gooey and religious, but I want to be upfront about something that is very important to me in my walk of life. My first call in the world is to serve God. A loving God, who created each of us in a unique way. I am a seminary grad, and I am currently working on a Doctorate in Ministry. What will I do with that? Who knows. I am far from a “Bible Banger,” heck, I can barely pull a verse out from memory.
But I cannot live in this world without knowing there is a God. God is intertwined into all of my relationships. Spirituality is important to me, and I often wrestle with how I acknowledge and live out who God is calling me to be.
As the author Frederick Buechner wrote:
Vocation: It comes from the Latin vocare, to call, and means the work a man is called to by God. There are all different kinds of voices calling you to all different kinds of work, and the problem is to find out which is the voice of God rather than of Society, say, or the Super-ego, or Self-interest. By and large a good rule for finding out is this. The kind of work God usually calls you to is the kind of work (a) that you need most to do and (b) that the world most needs to have done. If you really get a kick out of your work, you’ve presumably met requirement (a), but if your work is writing TV deodorant commercials, the chances are you’ve missed requirement (b). On the other hand, if your work is being a doctor in a leper colony, you have probably met requirement (b), but if most of the time you’re bored and depressed by it, the chances are you have not only bypassed (a) but probably aren’t helping your patients much either.
I love this quote. We have to love what we do, and we have been given gifts to help us love what we do.
I happen to love lots of things, but I especially enjoy discovery. I like learning new things, fumbling through new processes of learning and I really enjoy technology. I enjoy learning how it can change our lives in good ways and make things easier for people. I am an early adopter.
But, I also seek to live out who God is calling me to be in this crazy life. I enjoy writing, technology and spirituality. My blog will have all of these concepts, because it is all part of who I am.
I am not looking for conversions, or confessions. I just want to live authentically, and find joy in what I do.
On this page of my blog, I will include more of my inspirational posts. Some have been posted before on other sites, and some are new. Read it, pass it on, or skip it all together.
This is just who I am.
I hope this can be a place for women from all faiths and all walks of life to share their experiences and spirituality.
