Activity Trackers and Allergies: Increase of Nickel Cases

jewelry-allergies

You might remember the Fitbit Force recall, where thousands of people complained of some type of reaction to the tracker a couple of years ago.

An increasing number of people are heading to their doctor with reports of allergic reactions on their wrists.

I am not convinced the Fitbit Force rash was caused by nickel, I believe it was more of a chemical reaction to something leaching out of the product. The outbreak caused rashes and burns on peoples wrist, far more intense than just a nickel reaction.

But it seems Fitbit is not the only tracker with issues. An increasing number of people are heading to their doctor with reports of allergic reactions on their wrists. CBS did a report on this new cause of nickel reactions.

Lets hope companies begin figuring out this nickel issue and other chemical reactions that can cause harm. As the wearable market only continues to grow, we will probably see more and more cases of people having similar reactions.
